Arts and Crafts Projects at the North Beach Library

By Elizabeth B. Martin March 29, 2017

The Art and Craft Projects occur once a month with a different theme each time, and I try to include as many media as possible. The children who participate are of varying ages and skills. Whatever the subject matter, each child gets a watercolor sheet of paper with a permanent pen line drawing. I have six examples up on the wall to make them understand that anything goes and they should make their project their own.

The first thing they do is color with CARAN D’ACHE water-soluble wax pastels. After that they paint with water mixing up the colors. Only then can they start sticking on myriad fun craft buttons, gems, and endless other things.

In the case of FLOWERS AND BUTTERFLIES, I supplied a separate butterfly for them to color and then cut out. Once stuck on their project and decorated, the butterfly gives a 3D effect.
